      Debates in the House of Lords are an opportunity for Peers from all parties (and crossbench peers, and Bishops) to scrutinise government legislation and raise important local, national or topical issues.     Reform of the House of Lords has finally begun, with the removal of the majority of hereditary peers. But the long term future of the UK's upper house must now be considered. The latest book from the Constitution Unit moves the debate forward, providing an international context to Britain's constitutional reform, and drawing lessons from the. This chapter highlights the valuable contribution to the euthanasia debate made by the House of Lords. Its focus is the report in by a House of Lords Select Committee, chaired by Lord Mackay, which considered the Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill Bill introduced by Lord Joffe. The chapter considers the strengths and weaknesses of the report. It notes that while the Committee garnered.
